Wish they had a location in Manhattan! Some of the best Greek food I've ever had. Very unassuming spot and it's BYOB.
Who'd thought such a hole in the wall would have such amazing Greek food! I ate here for lunch when a friend, and the portions they serve leave you with a lot for dinner later! I had the gyro combo which was amazing, and completely filling. Service is super attentive and friendly, and like the cheesy cute Greek music playing in the background which is fun. My only complaint I guess would be the parking situation since it lets on and off right on a major road, but otherwise it's worth it.
Love at first bite! This neighborhood Greek BYOB establishment is always packed, and for a good reason. Don't let the size or location at the corner of Kinderkamack Road and Midland Ave in River Edge discourage you. My colleague and I were here last year at A Taste of Greece, enjoyed our meal, and decided to have lunch today. They've taken a tiny space and made it warm and cozy with views into the open working kitchen. Once you are seated at one of the 10 tables, you're greeted like family by the owner, Themis, and his staff. As appetizers to share, my colleague, her husband and I decided on the Saganaki and Greek Salad with a cup of the Chicken Avgolemono soup. As a main meal, we opt for the lamb burger on a pita with a side of rice and a slow-cooked marinated pork gyro platter. The complimentary toasted, olive-oiled-sprinkled pita and roasted red pepper-infused hummus was a great starter. Themis continued to really pour his heart and soul into his food to add those special touches, creating a delicious surprise. A complimentary walnut cake filled with sweet syrup surprised us to end this delicious meal. The portions were generous and the price reasonable. Our server, Andrew, went out of his way to offer a high level of service. This little place delivers an amazing quality of food, and we love seeing how it has grown into the best place in town with the best value, which we continue to recommend.
A had lunch here while visiting the area for business. What a great decision! Service was very responsive. Food was served in a short period of time. It was delicious with great flavor and a healthy portion. I had the lamb platter with rice and vegetables. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent, service was friendly and efficient, and the environment was comfortable. My wife and I had the gyro dinner which included a generous portion of meat, grilled vegetables, and seasoned pita bread with taziki sauce. It was delicious and we had plenty to take home.
Omg, this place is a hidden gem!!!! Run, don't walk here! The food was delicious, portions were very generous for the price. Most people get take out, every 2-3 minutes someone came in to pick up their order and the guy working the register knew everyone their first name! I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu.
Excellent service and great food! We were looking for a place to get a good gyro and my wife found this place on Yelp. I've been on a very strict diet for the last 30 days and I decided it was time for a break. I wanted to eat something good. Unfortunately I still had to try to stay on the diet so I decided on a gyro. At least it only meant I had to eat one pita. It was so delicious I felt like I was in heaven. The zucchini pancakes had my favorite cheese, feta, oh feta. They were fantastic, and I was still on my diet. Mediterranean food is perfect for me, delicious and meets my dietary restrictions. With the exception of the fantastic pita. But I can eat one! The place doesn't look like much from outside but when you go in, it is a quaint little spot, byob, which saves you some money and the service was fantastic.
Was in the mood for some comforting Greek food and found this place on Yelp saw one review and it was a 4 1/2 star-I give it a 5. Adorable comfy restaurant not big in size but food was outstanding in flavors. Started with zucchini pancakes stuffed with feta cheese amazing-then I had chicken shish kebab with a delicious white sauce and grilled veggies-it's a byob didn't know this but next time will be prepared. Oh loved the pita bread and spicy sauce served with it. Our waiter was very accommodating as the plate came with rice-salad and soup-I didn't want all that and it was not a problem-thank you
4.5 stars My friend was telling me about how A Taste of Greece was a small, casual place that offered incredible Greek food. Well, the next day, I happened to be in the area and decided to place a takeout order. When my family and I called to place our order, the man who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful, which made us feel even better about getting our dinner from there. When we went to pick up the food, we found the restaurant in a corner of a small strip mall with parking. The food was warm and infused the car with intoxicating aromas that encouraged us to rush home and enjoy. We started by sharing the pan-seared Meatball appetizer, which included a generous 9 or 10 small and soft balls. The beef meatballs were delicious, but the accompanying herb oil had too much lemon or something in it, as it was too sour/tart for my liking. We also got a large container of Hummus, which was smooth, creamy, and topped with harissa and crispy chickpeas. The bold spread was served with thin, spiced pita that appeared to be homemade. I had never had that sort of bread seasoned before, but it was so terrific! In addition to the starters, we each ordered an entrée, which came with our choice of soup or salad, as well as rice and seasonal vegetables. I opted for the side Greek Salad, which included crisp romaine, ripe tomatoes, bell pepper, and loads of grated feta, all lightly covered with a tangy dressing. For my main dish, I went with the Chicken Shish, which was essentially the same as their soulvaki, but included the grilled peppers, onions, and tomatoes that had been on the skewers with the meat. The chicken was extremely flavorful and lean, but was just a touch dry. The accompanying yellow rice was tender and delicious; the charred zucchini was also enjoyable. The whole dish was served as a large portion that was perfect for making a second meal. Lastly, we had ordered a slice of Walnut Cake, which was served as a large triangular chunk in a sweet honey sauce that kept the already fluffy cake even more moist. It was a heavenly pastry! A Taste of Greece might not look like much, but it really offered a fresh and flavorful experience.
This review is solely based on takeout as we have not eaten in the restaurant. Taste of Greece is my favorite Greek restaurant in the area. The hummus appetizer is to die for, and the Horiatiki salad is my favorite. Definitely add the shrimp!
